Exhibition “Modernism in Ukraine” as a guest in Chemnitz

An exhibition on architecture in Ukraine can be seen in Chemnitz until January 18th. Three exhibition parts are shown, each with around two dozen exhibition panels on modern buildings in the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Lviv. All three thematic sections are provided with explanatory texts in English. They underline the importance that Ukraine plays in the development of architectural modernism in the 20th century and raise awareness of the common European heritage of this turbulent era and the devastation of the war in Ukraine. The exhibition series, financed with federal funds, was created in cooperation with Ukrainian and Polish scientists. It was developed in 2022 as part of the “Triennale der Moderne” festival and shown for the first time in Berlin. The current installation with three of the six exhibition parts shown in Chemnitz is supported by the Foreign Office, Kul’tura e.V. and the Ukrainian Institute in Germany. After stops in Berlin and Chemnitz, the exhibition will travel on to Kharkiv.

Special programs will take place on December 6, 2024 and January 18, 2025, during which the Ukrainian scientist Svitlana Smolenska will guide you through the exhibition parts she developed and the curators of the project will also be present and give a short introduction.
