About event

We invite you to discuss with Alena Machonin about her literary debut Hella (2023), awarded by Magnesia Litera. At first glance, the book is a search for the fate of Czech German Jewish Helena Frischerová, who wrote poems and prose about ten years spent in Soviet camps. She also became the model of the heroine Ri from the novel Moscow-Hranice (1937) Jiří Weil. But Hella is not a document. And if he document something, then the author's way to the heroine, leading through other books and reflection of his own life in Putin's Russia. The discussion with the author will be led by Daniela Vrbová, editor of Czech Radio. Prague also received a doctorate in comparative studies. He writes, lectures on Russian literature and translates it. He focuses primarily on Soviet unofficial poetry, camps prose and contemporary novel. She translated and accompanied her, among other things, the works of Tamara Petkevičová, Andrej Platonov, Marije Stapanova, Ljudmila Ulické and Oksany Vasjakin. With Jan Machonin, she compiled the anthology of the poets of Lianoz's school thieves of everyday moments (2015), and prepared the history of Russian modernism (2022) by her teacher Miluše Zadražilová. For the prose Hella (2023), she won the Award of the Czech Literary Fund and Magnesia Litera award in the Nomination Book of the Year. He regularly contributes to A2 and Host magazines.
