About event
Look forward to another exciting special exhibition in the Barberini Museum in Potsdam.
Annette leads us through the exhibition "Avant-garde. Max Liebermann and Impressionism in Germany" - an impressive look at one of the most important artistic movements of modernity in Germany.
Impressionism, which emerged in France in the 1860s, found a decisive and independent path with Max Liebermann Germany. With bright colors, free brushwork and a new look at everyday life, landscape and work, this painting became the avant-garde in the Empire since the 1870s. Liebermann's garden paintings, beach and park scenes are exemplary of art that focuses on fleeting light and the moment.
The exhibition brings together over 100 paintings of German Impressionism and shows its entire diversity: In addition to Liebermann, we meet artists such as Lovis Corinth, Max Slevogt, Dora Hitz, Sabine Lepsius, Maria Slavona, Eva Stort, Fritz von Uhde and many others. Landscapes, figure paintings and still lifes open up a lively panorama of an era in transition.
Top-class international loans - including from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Städel Museum Frankfurt and the Belvedere in Vienna - make this exhibition a special event.
