Bachs Johannes-Passion met Cappella Amsterdam - Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam

Secretly Bach's Johannes-Passion is at least as beautiful as big brother Matthäus (and a less long is!). For the traditional passion concerts, this year, the Dutch Chamber Orchestra is once again working with Cappella Amsterdam, one of the best chamber choirs in the Netherlands, under the direction of celebrated Koordirigent Daniel Reuss.

The Johannes-Passion and Daniel Reuss
The chorus of Bach is a pouring music. In his rich career, he already conducted the Johannes about forty times. Bach completed his Johannes-Passion a few years earlier than his Matthäus-Passion. He wrote the masterpiece in 1724 for his first Good Friday as a cantor in Leipzig.

The choir in the Johannes, played by Cappella Amsterdam, plays a remarkable role: it portrays the people who call, screams and scolds a lot. The untenable popular anger comes to a peak in a kind of court drama with the inevitable conviction of Jesus to the killing. Together with his Matthäus-Passion, Bachs Johannes-Passion is one of the most beloved and most beautiful passion music.
