===================================

Sara Balogová is currently a student in the master's program at the Academy of Fine Arts and a graduate of the Josef Vydra School of Art Industry. In his project, under the leadership of Tomáš Rafa, he focuses on underground culture and independent spaces for a long time.

This exhibition deals with the current structure of the underground scene in the context of the current political situation, while relying on a comparison with historical developments. It examines the emergence of underground culture in Bratislava and points to the risk of its gradual gentrification, i.e. the process in which initially alternative and independent spaces gradually lose their authenticity under the pressure of commercial interest and development projects. The work tries to analyze the power of subcultures and the challenges they faced in the past and today, emphasizing the recall of the original idea of the underground as a space of freedom, authenticity and resistance to norms.

Nowadays, the underground club scene is becoming an important space for the expression of identity, emotional states and cultural dissent. Especially in authoritarian or unfree regimes where open public criticism is suppressed, underground forms of art, music, visual art, literature or film, often become the only safe way to express dissent. Such art is not only a reaction to repression, but also an active protest, which can even intervene in political events.
