Author Bara Podola about the exhibition:
"This exhibition arose from a deep the personal experience of a woman who experienced violence in a relationship twenty years ago. Her courage to share her story becomes an inspiration to us all. The exhibition consists of a series of photographs that depict the spectrum of emotions in the face of violence by loved ones, through artistic renderings by professional actresses and actors from the Slovak National Theatre. The actresses and actors participating in the project did not portray their personal experience. Their task was to use their talent and empathy to visually portray the emotions of people who have gone through this ordeal. The acting allows the viewer to see the inner world of people who have experienced violence - a world that is also full of courage, hope and desire for change. The aim of the exhibition is not to show violence explicitly. On the contrary, through acting, I tried to capture the emotional strength required by the daily struggle of victims for their freedom and inner peace.
The visual treatment of the campaign for the exhibition builds on the contrast of red color and concealment – the curtain symbolizes taboo questions and hidden topics , which need to be talked about openly. I symbolically open the exhibition a few days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25). I believe that this project will promote social discourse and help overcome the barriers of silence that surround this topic. Let's allow ourselves to immerse ourselves in the stories of courage revealed in this exhibition and become part of the change that we need as a society."
