About event
The Baroš/Kyncl Project represents a unique combination of two essential figures of the contemporary Czech jazz scene – Tomáš Baroš and Jan Kyncl. Double bassist Tomáš Baroš masterfully combines the classical and modern jazz traditions and is one of the most sought-after musicians in Central Europe. During his career, he performed alongside jazz legends, including Benny Golson, Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Mintzer, Arturo Sandoval, Miroslav Vitouš and George Mraz. Transgenre saxophonist Jan Kyncl combines precise technique with natural musicality and openness to new musical worlds. His name is inextricably linked with projects such as Jan Smigmator & Band, Kristina Barta Quartet, but also with a number of icons of Czech music - for example, Vladimír Mišík or Maria Rottrava. The band was formed in 2025 from the desire of these two visionaries to create a space for their own original work, which naturally combines tradition with modern jazz expression.
The quartet is completed by two exceptional American jazzmen. The position of the guitarist is occupied by the rising star of the New York scene, generational talent Max Light, who is known to listeners from his collaborations with the world names of jazz, such as Christian Sands, Donny McCaslin, Dan Weiss and others. Behind the drums is Jesse Simpson, a Californian drummer and pianist whose playing is a combination of technical precision and pulsating energy. Jesse has performed alongside legends such as Joe Lovano, Bobby Watson and John Abercrombie, and brings unmistakable power and drive to the quartet. The band's repertoire consists mainly of original compositions by Baroš and Kyncl, which carry the energy of contemporary jazz, the lyricism of personal expression and respect for the history of the genre. The music of the ensemble is full of vitality, spontaneous improvisation and mutual understanding between four masters of their craft. The result is a unique musical dialogue that appeals to listeners at home and abroad and confirms that the Baroš/Kyncl Project is a world-class top formation.
Jan Kyncl – tenor saxophone, Max Light – guitar, Tomáš Baroš – double bass, Jesse Simpson – drums.
