About event
Film premiere of the Freedom and Unity Monument
Democracy can be so simple in theory: the majority determines where the scales - in this case a 50 meter long walk-in bowl - tip. So far so good. In practice, the Freedom and Unity Monument in front of the Humboldt Forum Berlin is still unfinished today. The construction initiative started in 1998 - and generated opposition from the start. Some found the timing premature, for others the unity was no reason to celebrate. The documentary by Jens Becker and Dietmar Ratsch follows the development of the monument from the “Citizens in Motion” design by the Milla & Partner architectural firm to the current situation. At the film premiere in the DDR Museum, screenwriter and director Jens Becker talks about the film about the monument, which has long since earned the nickname “Seesaw of the Nation”.
In conversation: Jens Becker, director and screenwriter, Loitz/Western Pomerania
Greetings: Rolf Bergmann, editorial director of history and documentary film, radio Berlin-Brandenburg
Entry is free.
