Dear interested parties, dear committed people
We cordially invite you to take part in the BEA e.V. round table on the topic of "Participation and participation - African perspectives in German politics". This event is part of our project "Towards a new world order with Africa" to make visible and strengthen African perspectives on international power relations, funded by Engagement Global with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In this event we would like to ask about the participation opportunities and perspectives for people with (familial) migration history in German politics. Also addressed are those involved in political youth organizations who want to get involved in development policy for international solidarity, economic cooperation, strengthening the rule of law as well as human and individual freedom rights.
Problem
This round table is based on the observation that, despite certain successes in recent years, people with a (familial) migration history and black people are still underrepresented in German politics and therefore their perspectives are not heard enough in German politics find. This underrepresentation ultimately also contributes to the existing great inequalities in international politics, for example: B. critical contributions and perspectives of the African diaspora are not heard enough in German politics, which in turn contributes to the information deficit in the German public about global power relations and the resulting demands of African states for more say, which in turn stabilizes the situation in which the interests and realities of an entire continent are neglected in crucial global issues.
In addition, the successes achieved in recent years have resulted in greater representation of people with a migration history in German politics through their active involvement in the democratic parties by current ones Right-wing trends are seriously threatened again. The question of how their participation can be promoted and their perspectives strengthened is becoming all the more urgent so that right-wing populist issues and trends are not followed in the democratic parties.
Our round table is intended to offer a platform to actively address this lack of representation and awareness of it, especially with regard to the next generation of political actors. We want to bring together political youth organizations, young diaspora actors, NGOs and political representatives to jointly analyze why this participation is so important and how it can be strengthened.
Event format and question
We are planning short keynote speeches of around 15 minutes each at the beginning of the event, which will serve as the basis for the subsequent discussions. In addition to perspectives from representatives from the African diaspora and youth organizations, we would be very happy about active participation from everyone involved. Possible exchange questions:
- How can people with a family history of migration be won over to political participation?
- What obstacles do they often encounter when trying to participate politically and how can these be overcome? What approaches/strategies are there in the political parties?
- How can people with a migration history or from the diaspora, especially young people, get involved more effectively in existing political party structures?
- What strategies are there to make the voices of young, diverse people better heard at the national level and integrate them into political processes?
- How can topics and perspectives of migrants such as the African diaspora and other migrant groups can be better integrated into the work of parties and political youth organizations?
- What strategies are conceivable to make the voices of young, diverse people better heard at the national level and integrate them into political processes?
- How can awareness of the political and structural underrepresentation of African perspectives and the diaspora within established (youth) political structures in Germany be raised?
