About event
Landscape painting flourished throughout Europe in the 19th century. Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller is part of this development and conveys people's longing for nature with his intimate tree portraits, expansive images of the Vienna Woods and iconic views of the Salzkammergut. The exhibition illuminates Waldmüller's landscapes in the context of the time. Examples of pioneering contemporaries such as John Constable and Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot provide inspiration for discovering Waldmüller's depictions of nature against the background of European developments.
An exhibition at the Belvedere, Vienna, in cooperation with National Gallery, London.
