About event

Did you know that at the foot of Várhegy, in the Zuckermandel district, there is a small cemetery hidden in a wild novel, which has almost been reclaimed by nature? On the afternoon of June 7, we will retreat into the shadows of the trees and the past to wander the St. Nicholas Catholic cemetery in Terézváros, whose history dates back to the 18th century. According to legends, the local sculptor Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, famous for his grimacing character heads, was laid to rest here, and the Neo-Gothic Kittler crypt watches over the dreams of old Bratislava residents from the top of the hill, a worthy burial place for an architect whose handprints the entire city bears. Members of important families of the area, such as the Linzboths or the Ohnesorgs, are also buried in the Szent Miklós cemetery. During the walk, we not only admire the artistically designed tombstones and immerse ourselves in the special atmosphere of the cemetery, but we also gain a little insight into the former everyday life of Zuckermandel below the castle.
