About event

Béowulf
About the first Slovak edition of the heroic epic Béowulf is spoken by translator Marián Andričík with editor and publisher Peter Milčák. In the centuries, it has not yet become the subject of the interest of Slovak translators, although at home in England she has already met many modern verse and prosaic translations and took it, among other things, personalities such as J. R. R. Tolkien or Seamus Heaney. The epic has been preserved in a single manuscript, known as part of the Nowell Codex collection, named after the English cartographer from the 15th century Laurence Nowell and stored in the British Library. Paradoxically, they do not bind to the territory of today's England, but takes place in the south of Scandinavia at the border of the 5th and 6th centuries. His hero Bēwulf from the Northern Gman tribe ġēats, inhabiting the southern part of today's Sweden in the Middle Ages, and his comrades, and his comrades, sets out across the sea to help the King of Hrōðgār of the Danish royal family of Scylding, whose country is plagued by monster Grendel. He first goes with him in Hrōðgār's Heorot, then he also overwhelms Grendel's mother, who gets revenge on his son, and finally, fifty years later, as a king of ġēats and a dragon in a fight in which he himself loses his life. The skeleton of the epic is therefore the heroic acts of the protagonist and his retinue, but there will also be songs of Bardov under the roof of Heorota about the heroic acts of the past and the reader from the text gets a valuable picture of the life of the ancient german tribes in Scandinavia at the turn of ancient and modern times. The partners of the event are the Bratislava City Foundation, Staré Mesto, Lita, National Trust n. o. and Roma house.
