Inspired by Walter Ruttmanns Bahnbrechendem "Berlin: The Symphony of the City ”from 1927, the reinterpretation“ Berlin Rhapsody ”ventures into a filmic inventory of modern Berlin. The pulsating metropolis is now a melting pot from tradition and innovation, from history and present, from the hustle and bustle.
The film follows the original concept, but with a contemporary look: Instead of steaming locomotives and newspaper presses, e-scooter, smartphones and digital advertising boards dominate the cityscape. The camera immerses in the rhythm of the subway at peak times, accompanies courier drivers on bicycles through the dense traffic and pauses in the parks, where people of urban restlessness escape. The cut is rapid, with moments of silence that contrast the breathless pace. The camera captures the opposites: luxurious high-rise buildings and improvised caravan settlements, start-ups and traditional corner pubs, demonstrations and after-work traffic.
The film remains an observation, no evaluation. Berlin shows itself in all its facets - as a place of diversity, contradictions, constant change. A rhapsody that never ends.
