About event
The publisher Koloman Kertész Bagala regularly invites authors whose works have been published by his publishing house to literary discussions. Daniela Kapitáňová, a writer with a unique narrative style, and Richard Hronský, a writer with a distinctive narrative style, will be coming to the next discussion with him - together they will present the new edition of the title "SAMKO TÁLE: Book about the cemetery", which is one of the phenomena of Slovak literature.
She published her unique book debut 25 years ago under the pseudonym Samko Tále, who is a mentally retarded paper collector. The novel is his tragicomic monologue, which reveals the hypocrisy and petty bourgeoisie of Slovak society through Samka's limited but sincere point of view.
The book about the cemetery has become a cult work, it has won readers and critics at home and abroad. The novel was published in 7 editions in Slovakia and in 18 translations. Publisher Koloman Kertész Bagala is preparing a new edition of this book for the 25th anniversary, which will look brand new as if it were 25 years old. The author of the prepared visual form is Richard Hronský, a student at the University of Fine Arts.
Daniela Kapitáňová (1956, Komárno) is a Slovak writer, columnist, screenwriter and radio author. She studied theater dramaturgy and directing at DAMU in Prague. She worked as an editor and presenter at Slovak Radio.
She entered literature after success in the 1996 Poviedka competition, where she impressed with her distinctive humor and precise language. She followed up this success with her debut Samko Tále: The Book of the Cemetery (2000). Two more books with a detective plot followed: Nech to zade v rodine (2005), which explores moral dilemmas and family secrets with subtle irony, and Murder in Slopna (2010), which parodies detective genres. In 2025, she published a collection of ironic and darkly humorous poems Nezmysly nezmizli, in which she reflects on Slovak mentality, politics and culture.
