About event
We read some books. And then there are those who speak to us through a person who gave them a voice in our language. This talk was created thanks to the Michal Rešetka Public Library in Trenčín and will bring a meeting that is not only about translation, but about a deep relationship with literature.
We invite you to an evening with the translator Stanislav Valla, who brought the works of one of the most outstanding authors of the 20th century, Umberto Eco, into Slovak. It won't just be a conversation about words and sentences. It will be a story about friendship, about cooperation, about how a bridge is created between two languages and two worlds. About what is hidden behind the translation of books that we take for granted today.
You will learn more about Vallo's relationship to literature, about his translation work and personal meetings with Umberto Eco, as well as about the author whose texts are full of layers, meanings and intellectual play.
If you are interested in what is behind the book you are holding in your hands and how its Slovak form is born, this in the evening it will offer you a view that you don't normally get to see.
