About event
Bethlehem, the "House of Bread", is associated with the birth of the Savior. A small, nondescript village where the world has quietly changed. Prague's Bethlehem Chapel is actually also a place where the history of not only the Czech Kingdom but also the whole of Europe was shaped. The Chapel of the Innocents is associated with the work of Master Jan Hus, Jakoubek of Stříbr or Tomáš Müntzer. Participants will not forget to pay attention to an interesting modern undertaking, which was the reconstruction of the chapel in the 20th century on the initiative of the Minister of Culture Zdenek Nejedlý. How is it possible that the restoration of a sacred monument actually took place under the strictest regime?
Participants will tour the interiors of the chapel and the House of Preachers. Wall paintings inspired by Velislav's Bible or the Codex of Jena await them, they will show the pulpit from which the Master lit the fire for indulgences (copy only), or perhaps a well that is older than the chapel itself and a special entrance was built for it so that the townspeople could continue walk for water At the very end, they descend into the normally inaccessible dungeon, which is usually only open on Advent and during special events.
