BIMM Music Institute Berlin Masterclass - Ryan O'Reilly 14th November

Co-Writing as a Career: Inspiration through collaboration

Inspiration through Collaboration

This masterclass explores how to find and recognise the right creative partners: motivated artists who will benefit from what you have to offer, and those who will help you grow. We’ll discuss practical pathways to getting your songs onto big stages, into TV and film, and streamed by tens of millions or even hundreds of millions —drawing on real experiences from Nashville publishing houses, LA sync sessions, and collaborations with acclaimed artists and composers. You’ll learn how to navigate splits, royalties, and the business of songwriting, how to spot the collaborators who can transform your music and your career and techniques you can use in your first writing sessions.

About Ryan O'Reilly:
Ryan O’Reilly is a songwriter and lyricist whose collaborative work has become a driving force behind some of the most exciting acts in contemporary music. As a co-writer with Amistat, Ryan has helped shape a sound that has reached over 40 million streams in the past year alone, with more than 100 million views across TikTok and Instagram. His songs form the backbone of Amistat’s sold-out European and North American tours, with over half their live set—and even their walk-on music—co-written by him.
Ryan’s partnership with Flyte has contributed to their critically acclaimed second album, and he continues to write with the band for upcoming releases, bringing his signature blend of poetic storytelling and melodic craft to each session. In the world of film and television, Ryan’s co-writing with composer Blair Mowat has placed his songs in feature films and major TV dramas, including ITV’s *After The Flood*. He has also written with LA showrunner Chris Moynihan, whose support helped fund Ryan’s third album, and his collaborations with Jadea Kelly have seen his music featured in hit US television series.
Known for his “murder detective” approach to songwriting—piecing together emotion, detail, and subtext—Ryan brings a literary sensibility and a sharp instinct for collaboration to every project. His work demonstrates how the right creative partnerships can turn ideas into songs that travel the world, resonate with millions, and light up the biggest stages.
