About event
Have you ever heard the grass grow in the garden or listened to the silence in the forest? The acoustic space around us is fully occupied, the sounds of animals echo in it from the lowest frequencies (insects), through the spectrum audible to humans (birds, mammals and amphibians) to the highest, inaudible frequencies emitted by various species of bats. Bioacoustics - an interdisciplinary science combining biology and acoustics - helps us understand this "cacophony" of nature.
Although it is often said that you know a bird by its feathers, this is only part of the truth. Much more about the bird will be told by its voice, i.e. its song. Do you know that without the common bunting, Beethoven's 5th symphony would sound completely different, or that you can tell time by birdsong?
Come see and especially listen to interesting things about the sounds of nature, different ecosystems and animals. All this on 10.11.2025 (Monday) at 18:00 in the Library of Juraj Fándly in Trnava presented by Miroslav Demek.
Free entry!
Mgr. Miroslav Demko - ornithologist and educator; graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Charles University in Bratislava (teaching - biology/mathematics); author and co-author of several Slovak and foreign professional articles and publications; participated in the preparation of many national documents in the field of nature protection (PLA, national parks, NATURA 2000 territories, rescue and care programs); he was the director of SOS/BirdLife Slovakia for many years; operates mainly in the area of the Horná Orava PLA. He likes to discuss birds both cheerfully and seriously and passes on knowledge and experience to younger generations within the Ornithological Academy. Its "hearts" are the research, monitoring and protection of the Crex crex, evaluation of data for the Red List of threatened bird species of Slovakia and bioacoustic monitoring.
