About event

------------ English below ------------

Some of us have heard or told a similar innocent lie:
— It's just two steps there and one back.
— Just join in, you'll catch it as you go along.
— We don't teach this dance, everyone can do it in three minutes.
But that's exactly how you are in balfolk we ruin group dances for the community and then wonder why others aren't as enthusiastic about them as they should be deserved. Let's change that.

Sound familiar? You already took such a course in the spring, didn't you? Allow the question to be literally put to the body: After six months, is it still visible on him when he dances, for example, the rond de Barbâtre?

We have built the autumn course so that it has something to offer you, whether you completed the spring or not.

We will focus again on several simple but important principles of the functioning of our body. And we'll explore what can happen when eight, ten, fifteen such bodies are connected... and also what shouldn't happen. The result will be not only a deeper understanding of how group dances work, but above all the ability to really enjoy them (and not just look forward to another scottish). The set of dances will be modified compared to the spring run - we will return to some, we will add others (on purpose, if you know which ones are which).

WHEN, WHERE, WHO...
The course includes ten hours lessons. They always take place on Tuesday evenings in the Smíchov Community Center (Na Doubkové 2040/8) from 7 to 8 p.m. We start on October 8th and end on December 17th. (That's eleven weeks, not ten, see? That's because October 29th falls on the autumn holidays - we might have to skip the class that week, and therefore finish a week later. We'll let you know.) The price of the course is 2000,– CZK.
We will be guided through the course (as usual) by Mikuláš Bryan – musician, dancer, dance teacher and founder of the balfolk scene in the Czech Republic, who group dances are not allowed (although they also dance and teach couples).
You can register here: https://forms.gle/GacyCQfH76xx6Hox9< /a>

If you are still not sure that this is the course for you, come try it out at the first lesson. Then you either pay only for it (CZK 200) and don't show up more than once, or you pre-pay for the entire course. Please fill out the registration form in any case.

WHAT TO WEAR?
Anything in which you can move comfortably. We recommend shoes without heels, but this is not a requirement either. We might get sweaty, so a t-shirt to change into will definitely come in handy. Deodorant doesn't hurt either.

WHAT AFTER THE LESSON?
Each lesson is followed by a dance party (from 8 to 10 p.m., at the same place). If you stay for it (which we highly recommend), know that the course fee does not include the allowance for renting the hall for the duration of the dance, so we will always ask you for an additional CZK 100.

See you in the circle!

Ever heard or said one of these white lies?
— It's just two steps there and one back.
— Hop in, you will catch it as we go.
— We don't teach this dance, anyone can do it in three minutes.
Yup. That's how we kill group dances in bal folk, and then we're surprised that people don't enjoy them. But we can do better.

Sounds familiar? You already went through this course in the spring, right? And, if we may: Isn't now, a half-year later, the highest time to refresh the knowledge?

We made sure that everyone will benefit from this course, no matter if they attended the one in the spring or not.

In this course, we will focus on a few simple but important principles of how our bodies work. And we will explore what can (and what cannot; and what shouldn't, but unfortunately can) happen when more such bodies connect. You will not only gain a deeper understanding of how group dances work, but most importantly, you will get the ability to truly enjoy them (instead of just waiting for the next Scottish while dancing them). The principles remain the same as in the spring course, the set of dances has changed – we will repeat a few and and add some new ones (let's see whether you can tell which is which).

WHEN , WHERE, WHO...
The course consists of ten one-hour lessons. They will take place on Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm in the Smíchov Community Center (Na Doubkové 2040/8). We start on October 8th and finish on December 17th. (But that is eleven weeks, not ten, right? That's because we might have to cancel the lesson on October 29th due to holidays – then the course would take eleven weeks in total. We will let you know.) The price is 2000 CZK (approx. EUR 80).
The lessons will be taught by one and only Mikuláš Bryan – musician, dancer, dance teacher and the founder of Czech balfolk scene, who loves group dances beyond words (although he likes, dances and teaches couple dances as well).

You can register here:
https://forms.gle /GacyCQfH76xx6Hox9

If you are not sure yet, come to the first lesson and try. Then you either pay just for that one lesson (200 CZK, approx. 8 EUR) and will never come back, or you will pay for the whole course. Please fill in the registration form in any case.

DRESS CODE?
Not at all. Wear anything you feel comfortable in while moving. We recommend avoiding high-heels, but if you insist, so be it. We will be moving quite a bit, so an extra T-shirt might come in handy, as well as a deodorant, especially if you are staying for the evening ball, too (which you definitely should).

AND AFTER THE LESSON?
After every lesson there is a ball (from 8pm till 10pm, same place). If you stay to enjoy it (which we very much recommend), please note that the price of the course does not include rental of the hall during the ball; we will therefore ask you for an additional fee of 100 CZK (approx. 4 EUR).

See you in the circle!
