Get to know the key personalities who shaped the life of Prešpork in the 18th century. Dominika Zbončáková, curator of the GMB's collection of old paintings and sculptures, will present them in more detail through selected baroque portraits from the permanent exhibition.
A commented tour of selected baroque portraits will bring you closer to the personalities who shaped the social, political and cultural life of Prešpork in the 18th century. Thanks to period portraiture, visitors will get a glimpse into the environment of palaces, monasteries and art workshops and get to know who the inhabitants of the city at that time could have met in the streets of Prešpor. and Maria Christina of Habsburg-Lorraine, as well as a portrait of the young noblewoman Johanna Maria de Walderode. The tour will include a portrait of the sculptor Georg Rafael Donner, as well as the so-called Character heads by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt.
Selected works will point to the portrait as a tool of representation, power and personal identity, and bring closer the visual culture of baroque Prešpork.
