About event
We cordially invite you to the Artforum bookstore for the launch of the book Book of Bratislava by the British publisher Comma Press.
Slovak editors Radoslav Passia and Júlia Sherwood will be guests.
Book of Bratislava is part of a series of anthologies of short stories about cities from around the world (Book of Prague, Book of Teheran, Book of Tokyo)
10 authors and 10 translators.
The stories in this anthology reflect the changing forms of the capital of Slovakia: from a place full of hope, recently liberated from the Nazis; through the border point of communist Czechoslovakia full of informers; up to the capital of the new, democratic independent state.
Bratislava is a city that is still forming its identity, but also a place where creativity flourishes, despite - or precisely because of - its complex and complicated history. From gloomy bars in Petržalka to the green, tree-lined banks of the Danube. The past and the present are interconnected, and they try to capture what has been lost.
Authors: Ján Rozner - Day after the front, Igor Hochel - Obrcian and Vydarená, Rudolf Sloboda - Royalty from Britain, Lucia Piussi - Posledne dni Stoky, Alta Vášová - Pisková, Jana Juráňová - Change of address, Lajos Grendel - Minding másnap van, Richard Pupala - Peco, Eva Vozárová - Summer in Bratislava - short acoustic observation, Barbora Hrínová - TBC.
Translated from Slovak by: Katarina Gephardt, Jonathan Gresty, Paul Kaye, Janet Livingstone, John Minahane, Magdalena Mullek, Charles Sabatos, David Short, Isabel Stainsby. Translated from Hungarian by Peter Sherwood.
We look forward to seeing you!
