About event
With Brandon's Voyage, Chamber Choir NEXT presents a brand new chamber choir opera by composer Rens Tienstra on the occasion of the choir's 10th anniversary! In this musical odyssey, based on a Middle Dutch poem, the Irish abbot Brendan undertakes a mythical sea voyage. Together with his monks, he seeks not only the legendary Isle of the Ever-Young, but also his own calling. Brandaan is confronted with his disbelief, ends up in terrible storms at sea and experiences the most unimaginable things. Will he succeed in reaching his destination?
Rens Tienstra composed this opera with a choir in the leading role, commissioned by the Chamber Choir NEXT for the choir's 10th anniversary. Directed by emerging talent Zephyr Brüggen and accompanied by the Utrecht String Quintet, the audience is transported into Brandaan's epic, in which the choir alternates between the role of narrator, painting seascapes and then voicing the dialogue between monks.
