About event

The area of Bratislava as a territory on the border of the Alps and the Carpathians plays an important role in the contact point. This was also the case in the Roman period when the Roman border led along the Danube. The areas south of the river were an administrative part of the Roman province of Pannonia and the northern parts were inhabited by Germanic Quadi. The lecture will focus on the territory of the so -called. Old Bratislava, where the city - Medieval Bratislava was established during the Middle Ages. Today it is the territory of the Old Town district, where the existence of a Roman observation, and even a Roman camp, has been expected in the past. Their debates were followed by scholars in the 18th and 19th centuries, later archaeologists and historians in the interwar and post -war period.

What sources did they come from? Was the Roman camp documents really documented? And what form of settlement can we assume in the center of Bratislava in the Roman era on the basis of the results of archaeological research and their current appreciation? We will talk more at the Bratislava lecture in the Roman period by the Roman period of Central Europe Mgr. Juraj Kucharík, Ph.D. from the SNM-Historical Museum.

You are all warmly welcome. Free entry (not needed in advance), entry voluntary - will be used especially to ensure refreshments and technical background.
