About event
Bratislava wanderings commemorate the Crimes of Communism by bringing together Action K, Action R and Action B at least once a month - find a date that suits you.
Action K, also known as Barbarian Night, was one of the most brutal interventions by the communist regime against the Catholic Church in the former Czechoslovakia.
At exactly midnight from April 13 to 14, 1950, it was occupied by members of the People's Militia, Public Security and State Security. Their goal was to forcibly intern religious, eliminate monastic life and completely subordinate the Church to communist power.
In Bratislava, the intervention was concentrated on several religious houses, where monks were ambushed at night, taken away under armed protection and transported to internment camps.
Their property was confiscated, monasteries closed and spiritual life suppressed.
This action was only the beginning of a large-scale persecution, which later extended to women's religious orders (Action R in 1951).
The barbaric night represented a systematic attack on religious freedom and is still considered one of the darkest moments in the modern history of Slovakia.
Today we remember her as a symbol of resistance to totalitarian oppression and the fight for religious rights and freedom.
ACTION B
After the usurpation of power in 1948, the Communist Party sought to remake society in accordance with Communist ideology and get rid of real or perceived opponents of the regime.
One of the manifestations of this effort was also an action aimed at forcibly evicting "unreliable" citizens
from large cities to the countryside, which was supposed to serve the purpose of building a new classless society. The apartments went into the hands of people serving the communist regime.
The next step towards the transformation of society according to the model of the Soviet Union was to be achieved with Action B - "bé" as apartments.
The victims were officials, many of whom had previously been included in production, former businessmen, owners of hotels, cafes, tradesmen, wives of men convicted of black trade, espionage or high treason. Among the evacuees were people who returned from concentration camps, pensioners and people living alone.
Eviction of the first so-called amounts - 165 families approved by the presidency on July 15, 1952.
Communism, a phenomenon that left more than 100 million dead in the world.
The regime during which 247 men and Milada Horáková were executed in Czechoslovakia in the years 1948-1989.
4495 people died in prisons, around 200 thousand people were sentenced as political prisoners. 170,938 people fled the country. 280 people were killed while trying to cross the border
