About event
Bratislava Castle in the 9th to 13th centuries
Special tour of archaeological monuments in the area
During the tour we will take a closer look at the archaeological research at Bratislava Castle. We will mainly focus on the period from the 9th to the 13th century, when the original Slavic castle was transformed into a border castle of the Hungarian Kingdom. We will clarify the meaning of the buildings uncovered on the eastern terrace and the burial ground in their vicinity.
Then we will move to the northern walls, where the medieval fortifications were recently discovered. In situ, i.e. at the place of discovery, we will see a remarkable wooden earthen rampart from the 11th century and a Romanesque wall with a tower from the 13th century. For the time being, we are making the premises available exceptionally on the occasion of the European Days of Archaeology.
Accompanying: Juraj Kucharík and Katarína Harmadyová, curators of the Department of Older History of the SNM - Historical Museum
ℹ️ Note:
Archaeological finds in the area of the northern walls are currently undergoing conservation. Their visit is limited exclusively to organized groups on June 13, 2026. During the tour, it is necessary to follow the instructions of the accompanying staff of the SNM - Historical Museum.
Photography is prohibited in the areas with finds on the northern walls.
The route of this special tour is barrier-free and not suitable for visitors with limited mobility.
Part of the tour will be outdoors, so we recommend appropriate clothing according to the current weather.
The tour is in Slovak.
