About event

Brothers & Sisters is a production inspired by the real experiences of young people with mental health. It is based on documentary materials and feedback from the audience of the Divadla NIE Museum of Memories. The production Brothers & Sisters opens up the topic of what it is like to face one's own psychological difficulties, as well as how to be a support to someone close to you who is going through a difficult period.

In the production Brothers & Sisters, scenography and lighting design play an important role - they create a space reminiscent of rooms that are transparent and closed at the same time. The music and songs were composed for this production by Helder Deploige; they not only serve as an accompaniment, but also comment on and support the narration of the story and the actions of the characters themselves. The production is a complex theatrical experience that combines physical and visual theater, music, songs, humor and storytelling.

The production charts the meeting of five young people who try to reconstruct the events that led to the breakup of their friendship. They gradually uncover the circumstances that led to their relationship falling apart when they were 15 years old, due to the psychological problems of one of them. The production focuses on mental illness in close relationships, especially among young people. A mental disorder is a great and unpredictable burden for both the patient and their loved ones. Based on documentary material collected from the statements of young people who struggle with mental illness or who have provided support to friends or loved ones suffering from such an illness, the NIE Theater has created a performance about the human mind, bright spring light, the instinct of self-preservation and the power of darkness. As in the entire work of the NIE Theatre, humor plays an important role here as well. Among other things, we would like to open a debate about the fact that even in the challenging situation that mental illness brings with it, there are many bright moments and moments of self-knowledge. The scenography will consist of two "houses" made of transparent fabric. These will serve as spaces representing different places (in addition to specific places, they can also represent different feelings) and for projection. The show will take place in and around these "houses". The musical component consists of original compositions, composed directly for this production, which the actors themselves will play live on stage. In addition to the artistic work, this project aims to create a more comprehensive picture of the current state of mental health among today's young people.

Renewed premiere. English with Czech subtitles.
