A new member was added to the family of printed guides! Brno architectural manual. The 1900–1918 architecture guide is the culmination of another, the third research phase, which reflects the transformation of Brno into a modern metropolis at the beginning of the 20th century, especially a building boom in the very historical center, where after 1896 it was redeveloped for two hundred buildings. In the context of the Czech lands, it was the largest sanitation project, which significantly transformed the form of the historical center of the city, around which was built a number of representative public buildings. At the same time, new residential areas were created in the wider circuit of the center. The immediate construction of Královo Pole, Husovice and the village of Žabovřesky, which became part of Velký Brno in 1919, also recorded a large construction development with Brno.
The publication is conceived as a topographic guide to the city and includes 184 buildings of various authors (Dušan Jurkovič, Bohumír Čermák, Franz Pawl, Ferdinand Hrach, Leopold Bauer, Hubert Gessner and others) and various typologies (public and sacral buildings, department stores. Architectural morphology from eclecticism to Art Nouveau to cubic modern. The buildings are organized in ten trails and seven smaller trips, each trail is illustrated by contemporary and historical map, as well as information on public availability. Historian Michal Konečný. The individual slogans were processed by Šárka Bahounková, Pavla Cenková, Dagmar Černoušková, Aleš Filip, Aleš Homola, Jindřich Chatrný, Martin Koplík, Karolína Krunikova, Matěj Kuntorád, Veronika Lukešova, Sarka Svobodova, Lucie Valdhansova, Jana Vránova. The author of most contemporary photographs is Tomáš Souček. The atmosphere of the city at the beginning of the 20th century is illustrated by period films of the prominent Brno photographer Josef Kunzfeld (1842–1915).
The book will be presented by editor Lucie Valdhansová together with Pavla Cenková 10. April 2025 at 5 pm in the House of Art of Brno (Malinovského nám. 2), baptism is part of Brno Art Week. Currently, the book is available at the cash desk of the House of the Lords of Kunštát (in the Polagraph store), from 9 April also at the box office of the House of Arts. Price is 699,- CZK.
