About event

📅 December 4 from 6 p.m.
📍 Koma Lounge&Coffee Bar, Česká 239/23

We cordially invite you to a travel evening in Brno, where three inspiring presentations await you! Marek Čejka reveals the Middle East through the eyes of a political scientist and shows places full of history, religion and current conflicts. Antonín and I will go to Sri Lanka, where he experienced authentic meetings with local monks, and Iva will introduce us to life in the Azores, where her Erasmus turned into a year-long adventure on a volcanic island in the middle of the Atlantic.

18:00 Iva Kuglerová - How does one live on a piece of a volcano in the middle of the Atlantic?
I will tell you how my six-month Erasmus in the Azores turned into a full year surprise and adventure. You'll learn how work found me when I wasn't looking for it, what happens when an anti-running talent accidentally runs a race, and how many lives you need if you get lost in the jungle.

19 :10 Antonín Hrbas - Sri Lanka: The Island of Elephants, Tea and Buddhism
Sri Lanka, also known as Ceylon, offers more than just the beautiful beaches you'll find in the Caribbean. Here you can meet huge turtles, monkeys and elephants, as well as endless tea plantations and a rich culture of Buddhism. In this presentation I will share my experiences with the monks there and we will also talk about Buddhist philosophy and the (mis)values of the East.

20:10 break

20:20 Marek Čejka – The Middle East from the perspective of a political scientist
I have been traveling to the Middle East for more than two decades as a political scientist, tourist and guide. During those years, I developed my specific concept of visits to this region, which I call "political tourism". I am interested in not so generally known tourist places, but rather those that tell about modern history, conflicts and peace efforts, extremism and religious understanding...
