About event

Into the Forest is a dazzling novel about unspoken truths. With perfectly calibrated suspense, Maddalena Vaglio Tanet tells of a woman's fight against her ghosts - and of a forest that conjures up phantasms and heals wounds.

Translated from Italian by Annette Kopetzki

One morning the teacher disappears into the forest. As the classroom remains empty and her relatives search the streets and streams, she seems to merge more and more with the nature around her. Around them, boars roam through the undergrowth, and the songs of wild birds can be heard above the tops of the birch trees. She sinks deeper and deeper into a blanket of moss and memories - she must for all the world forget the tragic death of her favorite student, which drove her into the forest.
Behind the closed shutters and in the streets of the Piedmontese town of Biella is Meanwhile, you're at a loss: What happened to Silvia? And who is she really? The good-natured teacher everyone thinks she is, or an outsider with something to hide? When a boy from school comes across the teacher while wandering through the forest, the search seems to come to an end. But what do you do with a missing woman who doesn't want to be found?
