About event
in nature on paper , the historian Anne Greenwood Mackinney is devoting herself to inconspicuous objects in the Museum of Natural History Berlin: Catalogs, inventories and other papers of the collection management. Based on the in -depth upheavals in Prussia's science landscape and state administration around 1800, it shows that the documentation of natural history objects was anything but banal paperwork: these documents shaped the paths and the value of the objects recorded in them. They became a scenery of debates on fundamental questions: What is science? Who can research and who should finance research? Who has access to the material resources of sciences? Nature on Paper tells the stories of documents and the people who wrote, spread and kept and thus highlights the often overlooked forces that have transformed a research infrastructure on the threshold into modernity. The natural history paper work and its importance for today's museum world.
After the conversation there is a reception.
