About event
Srdečně Vás zveme na další Komparatistickou středu, která proběhne 19. března (17:30 Šporkův palác, místnost 206).
Vystoupí Cynthia Hansen (Grinnell College) a Celeste Miller s přednáškou "Milča’s Magic: Connecting Choreography and Linguistics during the Interwar Period".
ℹ️ Anotace:
The fields of Choreography and Linguistics are concerned with uniquely human products: in choreography, that product is dance production, and in linguistics, it is language. In the early part of the 20th century, both fields underwent a significant shift in thought, focusing on finding fundamental universals and underlying structures. For two fields that have developed independently of one another for centuries, the question arises, could there have been a moment when key thinkers in these fields found themselves in close enough proximity to have an influence on one another? Through our research, we propose that just such a moment existed in Prague during the interwar years. Using archival materials from the Prague Linguistic Circle and Devětsil choreographer Milča Mayerová, we present several possibilities for connection and collaboration between Prague choreographers and linguists during this time, expanding the scope of previously documented connections between the Prague Linguistic Circle and Devětsil.
