Event by: Peppi Guggenheim
Location: Peppi Guggenheim International, Weichselstraße 7, Berlin - Bezirk Neukölln
About event
Lorenz Knauft - saxophone
Joel Podolski - guitar
Konrad Buschmützer - Hammond organ
Lucas Rauch - drums
Cactus in a Garage stands for contemporary soul jazz with an unmistakable profile. The quartet around Lorenz Knauft, Joel Podolski, Konrad Buschmützer and Lucas Rauch combines groove, energy and an impressive variety of sounds to create a sound that clearly stands out from common formulas. Inspired by greats like Larry Goldings, John Scofield and Joshua Redman, the four musicians develop a modern sound language that neither copies nor falls into clichés.
In the center is the Hammond organ, which has floating, drifting lines lays the foundation. Guitar, saxophone and flute set concise accents through virtuoso solos, while drummer Lucas Rauch provides the rhythmic framework with dynamic playing and fine structure.
In November 2025, the band will finally present the long-awaited debut album with “In A Garage”: ten original compositions and arrangements that represent the entire spectrum of their musical expression. The pieces range from lyrical ballads to complex, energetic grooves and reflect the stylistic versatility and precise interaction of the four musicians. Titles like “Summerbreeze”, “Conviction” or “Siesta” impressively illustrate this range.
With “In A Garage” the band delivers a multifaceted, contemporary soul jazz statement - lively, independent and firmly anchored in the musical here and now.
