About event
Café Mille Colonnes on the Rembrandtplein was around 1900 the café where all writers, artists and stage artists met.
In the context of 750 years of Amsterdam, the party of poetry invites you to a pub evening around 1900, such as it could be experienced on the Nes and on Rembrandtplein. During the performance, lecture artist Simon Mulder Mulder brings anecdotes from and about the pub life of the Eighties, the famous poets and writers who renewed Dutch literature in the 1880s and 1890s. But especially we should hear small art songs from around 1900, such as the well -known "man daring to live" by Dirk Witte, and many unknown gems.
Our musicians Edwin Paarlberg (piano) and Ken Besuijen (vocals) bring the pub and variety songs such as the Eighties who would have heard. For the selection we have obtained advice from small art connoisseur Jacques Klöters.
The Spirit of Poetry is also presented: In collaboration with Kever Genever, the feast of Poetry has developed this gin to the taste of around 1900. Tastes great next to a beautiful poem!
