40 YEARS OF CAMOUFLAGE - REWIND TO THE FUTURE AND GOODBYE

Oh, how they were laughed at! Camouflage, which will be in business for 40 years in 2023, was often viewed by unpopular critics as “Depeche Mode for the poor” in the distant past. What a serious misjudgment! The three men from Bietigheim have not only had lucrative international hits to their name over the last four decades, especially “Love Is A Shield” and “The Great Commandment”. In addition, they always had their own style, which cannot be compared to anything else. The three-piece constantly reinvented themselves musically on a total of eight studio albums and continually amazed people with their creative developments. From pop to dance floor to dark wave and now and then ambient, a lot of different styles were represented.

Now the Swabian trio has returned to its old strengths after years of abstinence from music -industry. Above all, singer Marcus Meyn, percussionist Oliver Kreyssig and keyboardist Heiko Maile are in a party mood. This will be conveyed to the public in that there will be live concerts in 2023 - finally after 8 years - on the occasion of the anniversary year.

“Rewind To The Future And Goodbye” is the motto of the tour . Heiko Maile explains this slogan as follows: “The “Rewind” stands for rewinding in our discography. Combined with the word “Future” the whole thing results in “rewinding into the future”, a thought game with the time before our first professional recordings, at the beginning of the whole thing, when our band still had the future far ahead of them.”

Planning for the concert tour is in full swing. According to Maile, the band wants to “sound more electronic again,” says the composer and sound inventor. “Many of our old songs are interpreted in a modern way, some of the newer ones are perhaps even implemented in the sound of our early days, a mixture that plays more freely with our previous styles. We also want to present a hopefully successful mix of audience favorites and our own preferences. In addition, videos and visual effects should play an even greater role than before. When we celebrate, we do it right.”

Are there already concrete plans for the visual realization of the gigs? “We don’t want to reveal any details yet,” laughs Maile. “Just this much: We are planning a video campaign for one or two songs with fans and people who would like to help us with their own video content. We'll announce more details soon on our homepage and on social media."

According to our own statement, the concerts should "go back to the roots and at the same time let the entire history of our band shine in a new light “, Maile is convinced. The enigmatic band logo, which is influenced by “Italian Futurism”, also serves as a link and represents a reference to the future and the past in equal measure.

There are also connections between modernity and the era in some texts , in which the verses were written. “The Great Commandment” came about as an idea in the mid-80s, when the fall of the Berlin Wall was still some way off and the “Cold War” between East and West had not yet been completely overcome. Since February 2022, the “Cold War” and the East/West conflict have returned brutally to our planet.

Regardless of such gloomy visions, the trio is unwaveringly convinced of the vision, the camouflage history to keep constantly alive. Various DeLuxe editions, strictly limited vinyl editions and remasters will be released in the next few months. You can see: the story of this exceptional formation has not been told to the end even after 40 years. And that's a good thing.
