Brian de Palma is after the scarred face or incorruptible other legendary view of an exceptional author on the stories of gangsters. The narrator and the main character of the film is the Puerto Rican criminal Carlito Brigante, who is prematurely released from prison. He returns to life with a decision to finally put an end to the past with a killer and a drug dealer. But they will soon understand that the pressure of the native New York neighborhood, the pressure of "street", in which almost everyone is on the other side of the law, will be very difficult to overcome. This created a timeless gangster story, with a strongly romantic touch that still dazzles a dynamic yet elegant work with a camera or editing composition. And of course the performances headed by Al Pacin, Sean Penn or ... Aragorn in a wheelchair!
