For this project, Carlos Bica invited the saxophonist José Soares, the vibraphonist Eduardo Cardinho and guitarist Gonçalo Neto. The generation gap is an asset for this project, which features some of the most talented and creative musicians from a new generation of Portuguese musicians. The album 11:11 (Clean Feed Records) was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize and awarded “Best Portuguese Jazz Album 2024”. The Best Jazz Albums of 2024 - "When I wrote about this album in my column (*) in June, I admitted that I was addicted to it and found it difficult to put it aside in favor of other music. At the end of the year, I realize that I still face this challenge. Carlos Bica has always shown a talent for locating his music in that incompatible place where constant serenity comes peacefully with wild dissonance coexists as if balancing precariously on the edge of the eye of the storm, touched by chaos and calm at the same time. But never to this extent and with such power. The double bassist – along with alto saxophonist José Soares, vibraphonist Eduardo Cardinho and guitarist Gonçalo Neto (who adds some banjo) – conjures powerful magic on 11:11, one of the most vibrant albums of 2024. – Bandcamp (Dave Sumner), December 2024
