About event
Cleveland Grand Opera, 1934: World-famous soprano Elena Firenzi will sing “Carmen.” This is a sold-out event of the century for the small opera house in Cleveland. The final preparations are being made full of anticipation. But the diva is late. When Elena finally arrives, she is tormented by gastrointestinal problems and argues with her husband. Because it's all too much for her, she ends up taking tranquilizers - far too many - and when the first guests arrive, the prima donna is sleeping soundly. But “Carmen” must not collapse, otherwise the house will face financial ruin. Without further ado, the opera director sends her inconspicuous assistant Jo onto the stage as a replacement. Who will be able to tell the difference from a distance, under the costume and mask? When Jo's fiancé and a vain tenor also show up, chaos threatens. But the curtain goes up. And just as Jo starts to sing, Elena wakes up.
“Carmen must not burst” is a new, more feminine version of the global hit “Otello must not burst” - fast-paced, touching and hilarious.
