October 3, 2025 at 19.00 DOM ODBOROV ŽILINA
An evening composed on the motifs of old folk songs, choreographed by Petr Zuska.
"Folk song and poetry, and actually ethnic music in general, is a kind of red thread that winds through my work from the very beginning. She is a huge inspiration for me and I will probably always come back to her again. I feel there the intoxicating and heady scent of our roots, joy and love going hand in hand with pain and death, a fateful connection to something pure and archetypal inside us, which, thank God, often does not disappear even after centuries.
An evening called CARMINA VETERA ( Staré Piesne) represents only part of my "red thread". Specifically, the choreography "Ej Lásko", "Lyrická" and "Ruža" were created between 2008-2010 for various ensembles and occasions. On the other hand, a completely new girl's solo will have its world premiere.
It has been almost 30 years since I created my first piece. Coincidentally, it was also a girl's solo and also a folk song from the workshop of Dáša Andrtová-Vonková. The title was Confession.
What the soloist in CARMINA VETERA will "confess" about and to which ethnicity "her" Staré Piesne will lead us, I do not yet know.
Let us be surprised.
Anyway, in the remaining three quarters in the evening, reproduced Staré Piesne will be performed by Jiří Pavlic with Hradišťan, the Košice women's duo Vyšívanka and Jiří Tichot with Spirituál By the quintet."
