About event
The Metropolitan Opera made history in December 2006 when it presented the Live in HD series to theaters around the world for the first time - an abridged English version of Mozart's The Magic Flute. In the new season, the production returns in a special reprise.
The fairy-tale opera title, directed by Julie Taymor, moves smoothly between simple-minded humor and noble mysticism and is told in the form of a song play, which ideally captures the varied moods of the work oscillating between seriousness and lightness, both in the plot and in the music.
The place of action is Egypt - a country that was considered the legendary cradle of Freemasonry, while the symbols and rituals of this brotherhood are prominently present in the opera. The mythological atmosphere describes the otherworldliness required by Mozart's music and the overall tone of the work. The most popular opera melodies, colorful backdrops, costumes and charming puppets make the production suitable for audiences of all ages.
In the mythical world between the sun and the moon, Prince Tamino is tasked by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina, who is allegedly kidnapped by the evil Sarastro. Together with the bird hunter Papageno, they set out on a journey, equipped with a magic flute and magic bells. Gradually, however, Tamino learns that Sarastro is not an enemy, but a wise leader, and that the real evil is the Queen of the Night.
