About event

A musical and mystical dialogue between Andalusia, Iran and Syria

Carried by the wind and restless souls: melodies always travel. Some sounds find their way to places where they are not expected, but where, long before they can be understood, they plant a feeling of longing. As a child in Cádiz, Antonio Lizana was drawn to such echoes from distant places, melodies that sounded both familiar and mysterious. The music of Omar Farouk Tekbilek ultimately opened the door for him to this world of sounds, a first encounter that revived a forgotten connection in a resonance that knew no boundaries. As bassist in Lizana's quintet, Arin Keshishi became up close with Lizana's musical fascination over the past three years. Through countless performances and shared experiences, a deep musical bond was created, which naturally grew into something greater. In his role as artistic director of Marmoucha Orchestra, Keshishi enriched the dialogue with Lizana with new voices and traditions, allowing their musical journey to unfold further and explore new horizons.

A mystical element

A final, indispensable element of this journey is movement. Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh brings his personal story of exile, resilience and transformation to life within this symphony of voices and roots. Inspired by the mystical Sama dance from the Sufi tradition, he turns movement into an expression of the soul. In a fusion of classical and contemporary dance styles, Joudeh embodies the essence of surrender, like a dervish who loses himself in the rhythm of the music. Carried by the Wind is about the search for meaning, surrender and transcendence. Inspired by Sufi philosophy, both the music and dance in this performance reflect devotion, reflection and unity. This allows the art to transcend itself and create a deep spiritual connection.

Marmoucha Orchestra: A meeting of sounds

Marmoucha Orchestra is an ensemble of top musicians who combine modern styles with a multitude of musical traditions from Southwest Asia and North Africa. With countless successful projects, the orchestra has developed its own, recognizable sound that attracts worldwide attention. By both respecting and innovating tradition, Marmoucha Orchestra creates a unique environment in which flamenco and distant melodies come together. In Carried by the Wind, the ensemble blends music and movement into a shared expression in this environment. Like the whirling dervish letting himself go with confidence, this performance unfolds as a symphony of desire, recognition and transcendence, in which melodies, rhythms and movement open a path to deeper connection.

A Musical and Mystical Dialogue Between Andalusia, Iran, and Syria

Carried by the wind and the whispers of restless souls, melodies travel endlessly. Some find their way to unexpected places, planting a seed of longing long before they are understood.

As a child in Cádiz, Antonio Lizana was drawn to these distant echoes—melodies that felt both familiar and mysterious. The music of Omar Farouk Tekbilek eventually opened the door to this world of sound, awakening a forgotten connection in a resonance without borders.

Over the past three years, bassist Arin Keshishi has witnessed Lizana's musical fascination up close. Countless performances and shared experiences forged a deep musical bond, which naturally grew into something greater. As artistic director of the Marmoucha Orchestra, Keshishi has enriched this dialogue with new voices and traditions, guiding their musical journey toward uncharted horizons.

The Mystical Element

Movement completes this journey. Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh brings his personal story of exile, resilience, and transformation to life within this symphony of voices and roots. Drawing inspiration from the mystical Sama dance of the Sufi tradition, he turns movement into pure expression of the soul. Fusing classical and contemporary styles, Joudeh embodies surrender itself—like a whirling dervish completely immersed in the rhythm of music.

Carried by the Wind is a journey of meaning, surrender, and transcendence. Rooted in Sufi philosophy, the music and dance alike reflect devotion, contemplation, and unity, creating a profound spiritual connection that transcends time and place.
