International conference 𝐶𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝐸𝑢𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑀𝑎𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠. 𝑁𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑔𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 (Central European masculinity. Standards and transgression) will take place on 29 September to 1 October 2025 in the lecture hall of the University Library in Bratislava at Ventúrska 11. It will take place in English, the public is freely accessible.
In the last decades, gender expectations and standards have undergone significant changes. Traditional ideas about masculinity are increasingly questioned and new models of masculinity appear. However, although studies of masculinity as a research area have been established for more than three decades, they are not paying enough attention in our environment. Anne Tomiche from the Paris Sorbona with a contribution on dandism in the Avantgard at the beginning of the 20th century will perform as the main spoker. Individual panels are thematically focused on building the image of a man of a nationalist, Jewish masculinity in the modern period, depicting a male body at the turn of the century, the creation of modern masculinity in the 20th century, desire, difference and non -normativeness, border space or current global challenges of masculinity.
Rare guests and hostesses from the academic workplaces in Chicago, Rome, Haife, Paris, Krakow, Berlin, Warsaw, Budapest, Belgrade, Rijeke, Rijeke, Prague, Katovice, Ostrava and Bratislava will work their contributions. Sciences of Silesian University in Katowice, Institute of Czech Literature and Comparatistics of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Institute for Czech Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Institute of Polish Culture of Warsaw University, Center of Social Sciences in Budapest (HUN-ELTE) CNRS-MEAE), supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France through the Parceco program, and finally the Institute of Slovak Literature of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. It takes place with kind support of the University Library in Bratislava. Howver, Although Masculinity Studies have a Been Estabolized As A Field of Research For More Than Three Decades, They Have Not Received Sufficient ATTENTION IN OUR ENVIRONMENT. Modernity, I.E. From the end of the 18th Century to the 20th Century (Until The Advent of Postmodernism), But Will Also Address Contemporary Forms of Masculinity. The Keynote Speaker Will Be Anne Tomiche from the Sorbonne in Paris, Who Will Give and Presentation on Dandyism in the Avant-Garde at the Beginning of the 20th Century. The Individual Panels Will Focus on Themes Such as the Construction of the Image of the Nationalist Man, Jewish Masculinity in the Modern Era, the Department of Male Body at the Turn of the Century, The Creation of Modern Masculinity in the 20th Century, Desire, Difference and Non-Normativity, Border Spaces Contemporary Global Challenges to Masculinity.
