About event
What is the most remote place you can visit in the North? Are you attracted by absolute peace, endless forests, the wild northern coast and places away from the hustle and bustle of the city? During the travel afternoon, we will bring you closer to such regions.
One of the last areas where you hardly meet a living person is remote northern Finland. We will get to know the colorful wilderness of the local national parks and reach the border tripoint, the northernmost point of Sweden and at the same time the westernmost point of mainland Finland.
We will also take you to the jagged coast of western Norway with deep fjords lined with many picturesque islands and islets. We will visit the distant Ona with its red lighthouse and brightly colored houses, which can only be reached by boat. We will also see the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund and go on a trek along the Romsdal ridge.
Finally, from the ship's deck, we will explore the ice-covered Svalbard, islands only a thousand kilometers from the North Pole. This vast archipelago is largely unspoiled wilderness, home to more polar bears than humans, and the tundra is striking in its colors. We will enjoy shots of wild reindeer, seals, walruses, belugas and bird colonies against the backdrop of breathtaking fjords and glaciers.
North experts and enthusiastic travelers Michal Švec, Jitka Jindřišková and Václav Bacovský will guide you through the tourist pearls. In addition to a lot of interesting information and travel tips, a rich visual accompaniment awaits you.
Admission: CZK 60, in advance at www.mlp.cz
The travel afternoon takes place as part of the Days of the North 2024 festival on the theme of the periphery.
The event is organized by the Scandinavian House in cooperation with the Municipal Library in Prague, the travel agency Periscope and the Embassy of Norway in CR.
