CFF Green Screen: Severní proud

How did a beer bottle made in Germany end up in the virgin nature beyond the Arctic Circle? Director Steffen Krones decides to follow the route of plastic waste from continental Europe to the cliffs of the Norwegian Lofoten archipelago.

The film will be introduced by the poet Bernardeta Babaková by reading a poem specially written for the theme of this evening. The screening will be followed by a discussion.

North Stream / Steffen Krones / Germany 2022 / 92 min. – A filmmaker from Dresden, together with his friends, builds unique buoys equipped with a GPS locator and observes how the European river network is connected to the ocean. From what was originally a solo event born out of the horror that European waste is contaminating even the most remote corners of the planet, Steffen succeeds in creating a scientific project involving engineers, oceanographers and the public. Breathtaking shots of the monumental Norwegian nature and scenes of team enthusiasm following the route of special buoys alternate with shocking images of plastic colonies occupying natural scenery previously untouched by civilization.
