Join us in Döbling for an evening dedicated to one of the world’s most versatile grape varieties: Chardonnay.

From barren lime the Leithaberg to the volcanic power of the Styrian volcanic region to individual locations such as Hackenberg or Schuttenberg - each region tells its own story. Cool, salty, mineral. Or warm, deep and supported by wood and time.

In this tasting we show five interpretations of a world-famous variety that has long since found its own identity in Austria. Organic, single vineyard, volcanic soil, limestone - five wines, five signatures.

Martin Pasler - Chardonnay Leithaberg 2022 (Leithaberg DAC, Burgenland)

This Chardonnay tells of the limestone-rich slopes and the special microclimate of the Leitha Mountains. Mineral depth and a salty-fresh elasticity make it one of the most exciting white wines in Austria - here Chardonnay does not appear as an international style copy, but as an expression of origin and soil.

Krispel - Chardonnay Straden Vulkanland Steiermark DAC 2022 (Vulkanland Steiermark)

From the unique volcanic country, whose soils are made of tuff and basalt, comes a Chardonnay with lively energy and elegant balance. The combination of warm climate and clean fruit makes this wine a characterful ambassador of its homeland.

Julia Kroiss - Chardonnay Ried Hackenberg 2021 (Vienna / Hackenberg)

A Chardonnay with a Viennese soul: coming from the Ried Hackenberg, it shows ripe yellow fruit and a harmonious integration of wood and origin. The southern slope of the Hackenberg, with its mixture of sand, lime and gravel, gives this wine a dense, elegant profile - perfect for discovering the Viennese perspective on Chardonnay.

Taferner - Ried Schüttenberg Chardonnay 2022 (Carnuntum DAC, Lower Austria)

With this Chardonnay, Carnuntum shows how different the wine in eastern Austria can be. At the highest point of the Schüttenberg vineyards, a wine with a velvety texture, yellow fruit and refreshing acidity grows - an outstanding expression of this up-and-coming region.

Johann Kattus - Organic Chardonnay (Burgenland/Vienna)

A sustainably produced Chardonnay that underlines the increasing importance of organic wines in Austria. Charmingly handcrafted and with clear lines, it represents an accessible, modern expression of this classic grape variety.
