Tragicomic music theater about the question: how can self -expression help us to stand in this increasingly complex world?
While the Nazis are sharpening their knives in the background, Charlotte Salomon's life begins to shake his foundations for a very different reason. Her grandfather reveals that she has been lied to by her family all those years. Her mother appears not to have died of the flu, but has committed suicide just like five other family members. Overwhelmed by this message, 22-year-old Charlotte starts a search. With the help of her mentor Amadeus Dberlohn, she tries to understand what is still true now and what is not.
She starts to paint feverishly to create order in the chaos in her head and to reform her life. But is that possible? Or has Charlotte’s Lot already sealed and is she number seven? She makes more than 700 gouaches with images, texts and fragments of music. She calls the work Leben? Oder theater? - Ein Singespiel.
Vocal Kwintet Wishful Singing and the young energetic ensemble But What About Together Present a music theater performance around the true story of Charlotte Salomon. Her colorful visual history comes to life theatrical thanks to Steven Kampermans multicolored composition, which conjures up both Charlottes moving hearts and the lively Berlin of the 1930s. Thanks to the dynamic and humorous staging of Annechien Koerselman, it becomes clear that Charlotte does not shy away from any means to get the lower stone above.
The powerful performance Charlotte Salomon tells the moving story of a young woman, who knows how to hold up in a world that is ever more complex. In addition, it is a tribute to her work, which is still of great significance.
