About event
Discover the extraordinary story of one of the most important figures in the spiritual history of Bratislava - Rabbi Chatam Sofer, whose real name is Moše Schreiber.
During the guided tour you will learn more about his life, legacy and exceptional influence on Jewish education and tradition. You will get to know his work in Prešpork, where he led one of the most respected yeshiva of his time, and you will find out how his memory reappears years later in the public consciousness - from a postage stamp, to a commemorative coin, to the creation of the Chatam Sofer Memorial, which was opened in 2002.
This modern monument, respecting strict religious rules, is today a place where people meet history, culture and spirituality. Come and see for yourself!
Commented tour BEGINNING ABOVE THE TUNNEL of the tram in front of the building at Žižkova 26 in Bratislava, where we will introduce general information, transformations of the place from above and then move on to the tour of the Chatam Sofer Memorial.
The Chatam Sofer Memorial is an underground Jewish cemetery area where there are 23 graves. Important Bratislava rabbis and Jewish scholars are buried here, to whom great respect is shown in the Jewish tradition.

Visitors are respectfully requested to wear dignified clothing when visiting the Memorial.
For men, headgear (cap or hat) is required, shorts are inappropriate.
Women must wear a long skirt or pants and covered shoulders.
Please note that if you do not meet the conditions, you will not be allowed to enter Chatam Sofer's grave and your participation will only be possible outside.
