Chris Cohen
At first glance, Chris Cohen symbolizes himself as coffee table music, it looks good, it is sophisticated and oriented, sentenced to remain as decoration and little more. Or you hear it well in a pool, with or without a cocktail. This is, at first glance, the result of a simple mixture of when Brazilian pop discovered jazz, with the time when Belle & Sebastian played chanson française while standardizing university experiences and the first records of Mayer Hawthorne. There is some cruelty in thinking of Chris Cohen's music as landscape, but that's only cruel if that's the limit. There is no need for this deprivation.
In the past he was part of Deerhoof - in the band's most creative period -, played with Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood and had his own band, The Curtains, at the beginning of century. Solo has been releasing spaced out over the last decade and a half, “Paint a Room”, the most recent album, is the first album under his own name in five years, and has Jeff Parker embellishing the ideas that were exposed in the first paragraph. Cohen is then a victim on his own, accused of making sweet, contemplative, melodious music.
It's easy to point the finger at him for making music that can be easily listened to. It sounds good, experiences a plenitude of relaxation and sunshine, thus hiding the true epiphanies it gives when paying attention to Cohen's modern writing, which seeks redemption in the little big things while dancing through modern anxieties. The reason is not much different from other embittered craftsmen, the discrepancy involves what you chose to sound like. Sweeter, less bitter. Without being light that gives darkness, but light that illuminates itself with the light itself and with the beautiful characteristic that it doesn't know how to age, which is as if to say, it is timeless music, for the way it masks sorrows and dresses in the shape of a planet of cotton candy. Chris Cohen knows how to live his and our pains, listening to him is finding that bright side of life. Even if sometimes it's more discreet than it really is. AS
Lisa Sereno
Lisa Sereno, singer and songwriter who grew up in Leiria, found her voice in the local church choir, where she first connected with the transcendent power of music. Now, he channels that devotion into deeply personal songs that reflect his sensitive view of the world, shaped by his experiences. With a background in classical music and folk influences, Lisa creates harmonically rich and emotionally charged compositions, blending acoustic guitar with electronic elements to create a sound that is both nostalgic and contemporary. Her music is a raw, unfiltered space where Lisa processes her emotions, transforming past experiences into art that resonates with authenticity.
