Synopse

Jorge Sousa Braga was born in 1957 in Cervães and completed the medical course at the University of Porto in 1981 with the specialty of obstetrics/gynecology. He began his professional career at the Santo António Hospital in Porto. Author of a vast poetic work, he has also participated in numerous anthologies as an organizer and/or translator, and has been dedicated to writing children's books. His herbarium was distinguished with the Gulbenkian Grand Prix of Children's Literature. It belongs to the generation of post-revolution poets, revealing an innate ability in poetic construction.

Poetry impulsive reader, his work as author also manifests himself in the various translations he has done, as well as in the anthologies he is responsible, considering them as the result of a passionate transmutation exercise. Translated into Portuguese poets such as Jorge Luís Borges, Matsuo Bashô, Li Po, Guillaume Appolinaire, among others. Has done tireless and remarkable work in the dissemination of foreign poets in Portugal. In this session of the Poemar Cycle we will focus on some of the poems he wrote and translated, read by Elisa Scarpa and José Anjos, and interpreted by Carlos Barretto (double bass).
