Cimbal Classic – Kateřina a Dalibor Štruncovi

Cimbal Classic is a Brno-based over-genre band of Kateřina and Dalibor Štruncov (including the violinist and dulcimer of the Ulrych brothers' Javory group), which has been one of the mainstays of the Czech folk and alternative music scene for more than thirty years. It occupies a unique position in it - there is no other group that is similar in advanced way of arranging and musical expression and at the same time singing from the "dulcimer". of course also Moravian and Czech Christmas music based mainly on folk traditions. New and older songs together with little-known, novel, but all the more beautiful and earthy carols mainly from Wallachia will be among the pillars of Cimbal Classic's new Advent program in 2024. Cimbal Classic will celebrate its "32 years of kind music" not only with balance concerts, in which a selection of the most successful songs for listeners will be heard, which have accumulated over the years on his eleven high-profile, genre-diverse albums, but also by launching a songbook, i.e. a book called 30 years of (not only) songs from the dulcimer. It captures important moments from the band's life, as Dalibor Štrunc remembers them. The author also traces the roots of his musical inspiration - from the folk traditions of his native Wallachia to personalities of various genres. In the plot, popular figures from the world of folklore, folk and classical music parade. With the author, one finds oneself at the center of his own interpretation activities, whether with the Cimbal Classic ensemble or solo ones.

Štrunec's authorial handwriting and the singing of his wife Kateřina make Cimbal Classic an ensemble that naturally relies on other skillful musicians. All members of the group are also part of other renowned, professional musical groups. Czechs and Slovaks play together in the band and it usually performs in a six-member composition: Katka and Dalibor Štruncova as the pillars and singers frontmen of the band are complemented by oboist and soprano saxophonist Rastislav Kozoň, violist Katka Kovaříková, bassists Marek Švestka or Josef Stráník and mandolinist Martin Krajíček. Today's Cimbal Classic is music influenced by folk, folklore, but also serious music floating somewhere on the border of these minority genres.
