Činohra SND I Kocúrkovo

🖋️ Ján Chalupka published his play Kocúrkovo anonymously already in 1830. He suspected that the satire on the social conditions of the time would cause sharp reactions. And he was right.

💡 Chalupko's "cat universe" holds up a mirror for us. It shows the archetypes that Slovak society carries to this day - the desire for one's own identity, but also the inability to transcend one's own shadow.

In our production, Chalupka himself will appear on stage - as a character, commentator, witness and actor of his time.

The production is based not only on Kocúrkov's original text, but also on 11 other Chalupka texts. This gave rise to a unique view of the author, society and our presence.

🎟 The well-known motif of the bear, monkeys or Mária Štuartka may be familiar to you. Or uncomfortably current?
